Prologue:

I took a trip to Japan back in 2017 benefiting from several interesting business class fares with Star Alliance from Sofia & One World from Saigon. Malaysia Airlines is an airline I've been following closely since 2014 & the unfortunate events that ensued, I pictured MH as a twin to SQ except that SQ shines more due to great marketing & communication. So I wanted to compare the two. I had already flown them in Y between SIN & HKG via KUL with GG 007 but wanted to see how they fare out in J.

I took the The Limited Express Haruka train from Kyoto station early in the morning it's only 75 minutes pretty affordable comfortable & the scenery is lovely

My throne for the next 7 hours. I had chosen seat 7A on the outbound to NRT which is a great seat for sleeping. I wanted to try the Throne seat on the way back which turned out to be a day flight

photo 640x640 3

The paired seats are perfect for couples though storage is very limited. This type of seat clearly isn't uniform in terms of passenger comfort depending on where you sit.

photo 640x640 3

Throne seats shine by their sheer amount of space the table to the right of the seat can serve as a desk for a full size laptop with a meal it's truly great.

Summary:

Overall I enjoyed my flights with MH. for 650€ it was excellent value for money. The seats are comfortable, the crew is lovely & the food was alright for the most part.

The seat in itself has two drawbacks:
- You aren't sitting flush to the window so you need to stretch out to take pictures
- The small footwell for sleeping

I would totally fly MH longhaul again if I found a good deal

Many thanks for reading :)

Merci Will pour ton premier TR. Beau spotting. Tres bon deal. One way ?

Hi Will and what a pleasure to find you here among the contributors. Welcome!

It's a pleasure to read this well written and photographed TR. Great spotting throughout.

What a shame that the Pacific lounge was such a disappointment. I'm surprised that you did not use the JL one.

j like the different seat options throughout the J cabin, even though the comfort can vary and is not consistent as you said. The amount of table space on the throne seat is impressive.

Catering does not seem up to the level of a top notch carrier with the exception of the satays. Overall I find the meal mediocre starting with the lack of a printed menu, the ordinary salad, that "Frankenstein" roll and the disappointing dessert course. The second meal before arrival is a joke and they could have at least wiped off the dry ice from the lid.

MH didn't give out amenity kit for this segment? Just the slippers?

Unless the price is great I don't think I would go out of my way to fly this product. Thanks Will for sharing this great TR. '

Thanks Adan, would love to hear the story of how you ended up here also :)
I didn't think about using the JL lounge, this was my first time flying OW in business, I'm more partial to the Alliance as you know :)
Actually I don't remember receiving a kit but I did get one on the KUL-NRT flight, I'll publish it eventually.
This flight is abit of an odd ball, not long enough for 2 full meals but too long for just one... I'd like to try them on a 10 hour flight one of these days...
    See you soon Adan!

    A bientôt

    A bientôt!

    Ouaf ! Will !

    Superbe photos !
A bord, ça me semble très confortable.

A bientôt !
