Prologue:

Joon is also an airline? Oh really? Well, above all, it's an Air France sub-product born at the end of 2017. The first inaugural flight took place on December 1st. I could not join this first flight but made sure I was on board on my first day off from work. So, please, join me on this non-stop flight from Barcelona to Paris CDG airport for the first Joon Trip Report published here. Oh! And by the way, this is also my very first publishing here, yet hopefully not the last one!

I arrived from CDG earlier that morning with still some time to kill. Thanks to my Gold status with Air France

Love how airy and spacious this terminal is. BCN is a very nice airport. One of my favourite in Europe.

photo 640x640 3

The lounge is quite easy to find. Just one floor above. It's located in the SkyCentre

photo 640x640 3

A nice welcome. I find myself a seat. It's still breakfast time and the place is quiet.

photo 640x640 3

I normally no longer eat meat but this time I want to try some nice Spanish cold cuts. A bit early for booze but who cares

photo 640x640 3

It's all about meat here...

photo 640x640 3

But the liquids are engaging. I'll settle for a Martini Bianco. Well

photo 640x640 3

Wine and other alcohols are on offer

photo 640x640 3

Juices and waters. Overall

photo 640x640 3

Time flies and people come and go. It's time for me to go to the gate. Love this business guy's attach̩ case. What a serious matter to talk about in a meeting!

photo 640x640 3

The plane has arrived on time from Paris. Sky Priority passengers are called for boarding. Vamos!

photo 640x640 3

Love those airbridges in winter. Lots of light. Must be a hell though in summer.

photo 640x640 3

About to enter the Airbus A320. A very nice welcome once I step in.

photo 640x640 3

Nothing different from a normal Air France aircraft door. The branding is on the fuselage and the tail.

photo 640x640 3

Yet

photo 640x640 3

I quickly reach my seat. The pitch is ok for a flight of this duration and on par with whatever you find across Europe nowadays.

photo 640x640 3

The rest of the passengers are boarding while some Air France music is being played on the aircraft PA.

photo 640x640 3

The French airline also offers a business class section on these flights. The whole thing is a bit weird as it lacks full branding and a specific identity.

photo 640x640 3

Not full today though...

photo 640x640 3

Thank goodness

photo 640x640 3

Home of Vueling. A competitor on the BCN - PAR route although they fly to ORY Airport.

photo 640x640 3

We start taxying quickly as manual security demo is performed by the crew.

photo 640x640 3

Another ubiquitous

Left turn towards the sea

photo 640x640 3

Would die if I could not see the sea at least once in a while

Business class service about to begin.

photo 640x640 3

The clouds are back and will not leave us until arrival. The carts are out.

photo 640x640 3

Joon is a different low-cost airline concept. Free drinks are offered: coffee

photo 640x640 3

They also have a limited wifi service with access to content. You must install the official app first though. I am not interested in music or video content

photo 640x640 3

Both iOS and Android versions are available without noticeable differences. The app is free of charge

photo 640x640 3

For those hungry

Meanwhile

The weather outside must be crappy. Thank goodness

photo 640x640 3

The catering affair is wrapped up in a proper way...

and disposed of in the seat pocket in front of me.

photo 640x640 3

We'll soon start our descent into Paris CDG airport. Fasten seat belt is on. The nice crew comes clearing all rubbish.

photo 640x640 3

photo 640x640 3

Down into murk

photo 640x640 3

photo 640x640 3

On the ground

Reverse!

photo 640x640 3

Ready to cross the parallel. CDG has 2 sets of 2 runways. 08/26 on the southern part of the airport and 09/27 on the northern part.

photo 640x640 3

Once on the other side

photo 640x640 3

More spotting as we taxi around to our gate with some local traffic.

Company planes...

photo 640x640 3

At the gate.

photo 640x640 3

And the rain starts pouring down.

photo 640x640 3

Everybody out. I shall leave the aircraft last to have a chance to talk to the crew.

photo 640x640 3

And take a few pictures of the cabin.

photo 640x640 3

The cabin looks empty as much as this "airline for millennials" concept. The crew was very enthusiastic

photo 640x640 3

Hard to get a nice view of the bird with all those drops and some sort of plastic film on the window panes of the finger.

photo 640x640 3

Oh! What a nice surprise. The French police has "organized" a welcome reception to greet us all. Well

photo 640x640 3

It took us 50 minutes to get out of there. How ridiculous! France could offer a much better first impression. Well

Summary:

"Joon is also an airline." Well, with this sentence, Air France does not position this new airline very clearly. While the crew onboard looked very happy with their new job, the whole concept is not clear enough to me. There's still way too much AF flavour to have Joon clearly identified as a "disrupter". The buy-on-board concept is not well executed: free items cart are being served first and it takes some time to have access to the next extra items. I find this to be counter-productive. I bought because I wanted to but I'm not sure I would have done so in any other occasion. On the other hand, the benefits of the Sky Team product may play an important part when deciding where to put your money. So, are we living a new in-flight revolution? Is this going to be the kind of service we should expect from a major airline? Only time will tell.
